While I wrote up numerous studies from my grad school research for scientific journals, plus newsletters and blogs about our small US-Nepal nonprofit, my personal writing pursuits did not begin until I joined creative writing groups in the early 2000’s. I was always an avid reader and enjoyed other creative ventures such as making homemade Christmas cards and photo greeting cards about human features, Nepal and nature. Over the years, ideas percolated and became poems, prayers, personal essays and children’s stories. Topics included travel experiences, patients, friends, work situations, laundromat experiences and more. The unsubmitted and dusty pile grew.
While visiting with my mom on her final lucid night at a nursing home in 2019, we joked and voted which of her 8 kids had the best singing voice. I nominated an older brother who’d been in a choir and claimed I had the worst, since I truly have a three-note range. She told me “Well, maybe you just need to use [your voice] more!” While I’m still working on my singing ability, I’m trying hard to write more and better plus share my written work with others. This is my debut publication about the laundromat that I’ve co-owned since 2018. Thank you for “listening”! I hope to get other of my writing projects out there soon.
Cheers to all those who use their voice, in whatever fashion they choose!
